EHXIBITION SYNOPSIS

the theme behind 'emerging' exhibition is a collection of one boy's dreams.

I knew a boy who struggled to figure out whether he really existed, or was only someone else’s dream.

At night, he’d switch on a red bulb, get naked, and then lie down in a bath full of developer, holding his breath, waiting for any contours to emerge and reveal what he actually might be.

A boy as an idea rendered on a grainy film.

[Accipite et manducate ex hoc omnes:

hoc est enim Corpus meum, quod pro vobis tradetur]

BABA UPDATE

the films from Poland have been processed and I've just added a few examples of what 'baba' looks like. I'm reading Estes's 'women who run with the wolves,' and discovering how storytelling can hold a healing power for the storyteller. I am amazed how relevant it is to what my mother says, independantly. These latest images are as if sound-out sketches; they're tiny drawings that I make in order to tame baba, and get her used to my presence in her forest. view images here

monday 08 january 2007

THINGS CHANGE WHEN YOU GO AWAY

and so they do. i returned from poland. it was warm and productive. i dragged my mother into the woods in search of baba, shot nine rolls among the trees. it was magical and plain at the same time. it was like accepting the fact that mystical and ordinary have always taken equal parts of my reality. it was like accepting that half of my life has been magical and half has been plain. i cannot figure out which quenches my anxiety better.

films have been sent for processing. Images coming up soon!

BABA

'baba' in polish stands for a 'mature woman.' this term implies simplicity. not necessarily derogatory simplicity, what numerous sayings might suggest. 'baba' refers to the very basic image of a country woman, whose existence is half dependant on the course of nature, and half dependent on the mystial forces. she is the wise woman of the woods, and she is the stupified wife of a matriarch plowman. she maintains sanity, yet runs wild with forest creatures.

i have asked jozefina, my mum, to write down stories of the woods she visits every day. she's come back with a series of amazing narratives, which i'm going to publish here soon. within the next few weeks i'm going to visit mokrzeszow and see how 'baba' is actually doing this winter... and hey, merry christmsa 2006!

wednesday 29 november

MOONFLOWERS

the latest update in the 'shot' section includes images of the flowers from the moon as i see them. it is my smile towards aletheia casey, an australian artist-photographer, whose perverse flirt with transparency film has created truly amazing images and ispired me greatly! [www.aletheiacasey.com]

thursday 23 november 2006

PHOTOGRAPHY UPDATE

the 'shot' section has been now completely re-arranged. i have added three new galleries [TUNES, MOKRZESZOW and DOLL FREAKS]'Tunes' are an ongoing project, so is Mokrzeszow - the forest and the woman in it are going to be my main focus during christmas. i've also added new images to the already existing galleries 'glances' and 'faces.' there is more stuff coming soon!

ROMANTYCZNOSC

i have just added a new text to the polish section of fumador. I'm currently writing another story 'about the boy who,' which should be up in a few days. I'm also writing a script for a play for Equaldoubt, and thinking about dropping off uni. so much fun for one person!

wednesday 08 november 2006

BENCHES

i have just updated the 'project' section, where you can find out how my collabotarion with wroclaw's poet pawel dunajko is progressing. I have translated his poems into english, even though I know that poems really have a life in one language only.

saturday 28 oct 2006

KICK OFF

i'm putting the site up right as we speak. in its primal form, not for long probably, as i will keep adding new material once it's made its way to this world out of my stuffy mind. all alterations to the site along with reflections and ideas will be mentioned here. until then, with a glass of red wine, i'm welcoming you to me!
